Marriage in Thailand (Norwegian version)

In order for a Norwegian citizen to register a marriage with a Thai citizen in Thailand, the Thai authorities request that the Norwegian consulate issues a Marriage Application before the ceremony takes place. To have this Marriage Application issued at the consulate, please use the following checklist:

1.  Make sure that you have all of the following ORIGINAL documents:

  • CERTIFICATE OF NO IMPEDIMENT TO MARRIAGE (ATTEST TIL BRUK FOR EKTESKAPSINNGÅELSE ETTER  UTENLANDSK RETT).
  • YOUR PASSPORT

  • THE PASSPORT OF THE PERSON YOU INTEND TO MARRY

  • INCOME DOCUMENTATION FROM EMPLOYER OR INLAND REVENUE OFFICE (seneste ligningsattest)

  • NAME, ADDRESS AND PHONE NUMBER OF TWO NORWEGIAN REFERENCES

2.  Download and fill in the Marriage Application Form, but do not sign. The form can also be
completed when handing in the documents at the consulate.

3.  Bring the Marriage Application Form (if downloaded) and a complete set of all original documents
     mentioned above to the consulate.

4.  Assuming you have submitted all necessary documents, you will be able to collect the signed and
stamped documents in approximately 2 working days.

5.  When you collect the documents, we ask you to check that all information is correct and sign the
Marriage Application Form in the presence of an officer from the consulate.

It is also possible to send scanned versions of the original documents and a completed Marriage Application Form to the consulate's e-mail address: This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it , and pay the fee to the consulate's account. The processing of the case will begin as soon as the fee is received. When you collect the documents at the consulate, you must bring all original documents that have been scanned. NB: When scanning the Certificate of No Impediment to Marriage (ATTEST TIL BRUK FOR EKTESKAPSINNGÅELSE ETTER  UTENLANDSK RETT), it is important that both pages with stamps are scanned.

After the Marriage Application has been issued, it needs to be translated to Thai and verified by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Bangkok (Please see "Procedure after issuing of Marriage Application
